Finding a business that matches your personality is the most crucial step in becoming self-employed. It makes no sense to leave an unfulfilling job to go into an equally unrewarding business enterprise.

The strength of successful small businesses comes from the unique combination of the entrepreneur’s personality and a great product or service. While many aspiring business owners seem to understand their interests and abilities, they don’t have the slightest notion of what business idea might be an appropriate match. Yet it’s not as difficult as you might think to come up with a workable business idea.

To help assure that you find a good match, you should candidly consider your lifestyle, interests and experience, A good place to start is to ask yourself if you like working with people or prefer to work more by yourself. If you are shy and will be uncomfortable around new people, you’d be best advised to stay away from a high-profile selling scenario.

On the other hand, if you thrive on the energy of other people, you probably won’t he happy in a manufacturing business. It’s easy to overlook these natural tendencies when you allow yourself to get carried away with fads or with the opinions of your friends and relatives. Remember, if you try a business that is a poor fit and you fail, you will be the one who is left with the debts, not your friends.

Review the things you like to do best. For example, if you love to go camping and hiking, a business in outdoor recreation might be a good fit for you. But what form should it take? Sporting goods store? Expedition leader? Equipment manufacturer? Newsletter publisher? You can quickly see that one idea can develop into many forms. Although you may eventually try them all in your business, you need to focus on one at the beginning. How do you go about doing that?

Take Advantage of What You Know

It’s generally advisable to start with something you have done before and are good at. Ask yourself what basic skills are required by this activity. For example, are you good with your hands? Do you speak well to groups? Can you write well? Are you well-organized? If your don’t have all the necessary skills, can you learn those you need?

Another good way to learn the pros and cons of a business you’re considering is to seek out people in the same or similar businesses and talk with them. Ask them first for their advice. Observe how they function in their work.

Read books on the subject-but be careful not to try starting a business on the basis of a book’s advice alone – you will be getting information from only the most optimistic viewpoint.

The best source for learning is to actually work in the business. In the ferociously competitive world of small business, this is not always possible. Still, it’s worth trying to find a mentor who can describe the pitfalls, frustrations and potential disasters as well as the successes.

Identifying Legitimate Opportunities

Even after thinking about their interests and abilities, people can find it difficult to focus on a business idea. They make the mistake of thinking that the process is very complex, and it’s true that it can be confusing when faced with the deluge of money-making opportunities advertised everywhere. Every day, dozens of newspaper ads offer businesses for sale. Every month, at least three magazines trumpet their “astounding” business opportunities. More than 2,000 companies offer franchises. Direct selling organizations aim to recruit you.

How do you identify the legitimate opportunities? The secret is simple: Remember that the best business ideas come from the combination of your interests, abilities and past experiences, matched to a set of definable needs in the marketplace. Don’t be fooled by promises of quick wealth – it takes hard work to start and run a business.

A good business idea is likely in be straightforward and simple. The more exotic your idea, the more you must spend — in time and money – just to explain your idea to potential buyers. Many of the most successful new businesses are based on commonly known business ideas executed uncommonly well.

Determine If Your Idea Will Work

After some exploration and deliberation, you will have come up with a business idea, or perhaps two. But you know that every day thousands of new business ideas are talked about. How do you determine if your carefully crafted idea will work? At this point, you must take a cold, calculating look at all aspects of your idea. Compare each of your ideas to each other by asking the following questions:

What are the three most important things I must do to turn this idea into a business? Do I know how to do them?

Is the market for my idea large enough to provide growth?

Is there a way that I can reach my potential customers with my sales message?

.Can the idea he expanded into additional products or services?

Is anyone else in my area doing this business? How many competitors are there, and how close are they to me?

You must also carefully estimate how much money you need to get your idea off the ground and how much profit you can realistically expect it to return.

Start by writing down every expense necessary to get your business going. Common expenses include: office equipment, machinery; tools, supplies, vehicles, licenses, space rental consultants, franchise fees or royalties, advertising, insurance and employee wages.

Next, use library research, interviews with business owners, trade associations, government reports and magazine articles to determine what level or profit an average business in your chosen field generates. Keep in mind that if the return on you investment is no better than you can earn on a certificate of deposit. You might as well keep your money in the bank.

What Sacrifices Will Your Business Demand?

You should honestly consider the sacrifices you and your family may have to make to allow you to start your own business. Will your spouse have to continue working at a less-than-inspiring job to keep the budget in shape? Will you have to start at home until you can afford to move out?

Once you’ve decided upon your business, expect to hear a lot of reasons why it won’t work. For some reason, your friends and family members will typically view your plans with alarm. Because it’s difficult to ignore the opinions of those close to us, these naysayers can destroy a terrific business idea before it ever has a chance to see the light of day. If you truly believe in your idea, you can override the negative feedback you’re likely to get. Remember that there are few opportunities in life more exciting than thinking up your own business idea and bringing it to life.

Seven Ways to Come Up With A Dynamite Business Concept

Look for Opportunities at Work. Corporations are eliminating operations, thus creating gaps in service. If you can deliver this service, you may be able to start in business with several substantial customers.

Become a Better Observer. Carry around a notebook and jot down products and services you can’t find. Note when you don’t get good service or when a product doesn’t deliver what it promises. Can you do better?

Re-establish Something That Has Disappeared. There is a tremendous nostalgia boom in America because consumers are basically dissatisfied with today’s level of service. Is there something you enjoyed in the past but which is no longer available in your area? See if others share your interest.

Give New Life to the Ordinary. Imagine the perfect setting for a routine service, such as shoe repair or dry cleaning. See if you can bring it to life and still make a profit.

Study Trends. TV news programs, magazines and newspapers all report stories that reflect changes in values and lifestyles. Current examples include difficulty in coordinating family schedules, a more conservative investment outlook and an aging population.

Uncover a Business within a Business. Some businesses have become so overblown that its essential service has almost been ignored. Resurrect it and create a new demand for an old need.

Look Back to your Childhood. Your old hobbies can grow into a business. You can start out with the advantage of an area you already know a lot about.

Even though longer-term business finance techniques might be appropriate for many circumstances, there are some important short-term business loan options that will be less costly in producing improved credit card processing and commercial mortgage results for business owners. Short-term business financing choices can be misunderstood because of a preference by many business owners for long-term commercial real estate loan and commercial loan programs.

Two Important Short-Term Business Finance Options

Two of the most overlooked short-term working capital business loan strategies are short-term commercial mortgage loan programs and business cash advance programs in conjunction with credit card processing. Both of these business finance options are relevant for most business owners but are frequently misunderstood.

Short-term Programs for Commercial Real Estate Investment Financing

A long-term business loan is appropriate for many businesses that own commercial real estate investment property. Business properties should normally be financed with a combination of short-term and long-term business finance funds. When a longer-term commercial mortgage is viable, it is preferable to secure long-term business financing, preferably for 30 years.

However there will be many commercial mortgage loan situations in which longer-term real estate business financing is not appropriate for the business owner. In such circumstances it is important for a business owner to realize that there are viable short-term working capital management options.

When a Short-Term Commercial Mortgage is Appropriate

If a business owner plans to sell or refinance their business within a few years, it is preferable to explore short-term business finance options. The best short-term business loan will have minimal prepayment penalties in comparison to terms commonly included with long-term commercial real estate investment property financing.

The avoidance of business finance prepayment fees and lockout fees fees in some short-term business financing programs is an important benefit of these short-term commercial mortgage approaches. The absence of these potential fees could produce a savings of up to 20% or more if the business property is sold during the period which would have involved lockout fees in a longer-term commercial loan.

Short-Term Commercial Real Estate Investment Property Financing Limitations

There are some trade-offs that need to be understood if a business owner chooses shorter-term business financing even though prepayment fees will usually be avoided with a short-term business loan. When short-term commercial real estate financing is a realistic option, the loan-to-value will usually be no higher than 70%, the commercial mortgage will not be readily available for special purpose business investment properties such as golf courses and the interest rate will frequently be in the range of about 12%.

Best Investing Possibilities for a Short-Term Commercial Mortgage Loan

Warehouse, multi-family, office, mixed-use and retail business properties are the best possibilities for short-term business financing. Business owners should be comfortable with a time period of less than three years for a typical short-term business loan.

Fewer Mortgage Lenders for a Short-Term Commercial Real Estate Loan

There will typically be a very small number of commercial real estate investment property lenders who are effective at implementing the short-term commercial mortgage loan strategy properly. There are also a number of problems to be avoided with a short-term commercial real estate loan, so choosing an appropriate provider is extremely important to any business owner considering a short-term business finance program.

Credit Card Processing and Business Cash Advance Programs

For any business that accepts credit cards as a method of payment, a business cash advance is a critical working capital management tool that is often overlooked. Even thriving businesses frequently need more working capital than they can borrow. One of the least-known business finance strategies for successful businesses is potentially the single best working capital loan strategy for obtaining needed cash for growing their business: the use of a merchant cash advance or business cash advance program.

Primary possibilities to take advantage of this business financing program are service and retail businesses. This credit card processing and credit card financing strategy uses credit card receivables to determine the amount of a merchant cash advance.

Working Capital Management: Credit Card Financing and Credit Card Processing

This business financing technique is called credit card financing or credit card factoring. Some business owners might have used a business finance technique referred to as receivables factoring to sell future receivables at a discount and receive immediate cash.

Many service and retail businesses cannot document business receivables to obtain a business loan. Businesses such as bars and restaurants do not typically have receivables to use for business financing.

What these businesses do have in many cases is documented sales volume and documented credit card sales activity. It is this documented level of sales volume and credit card sales activity that becomes a financial asset to the business and its business finance strategies. Business cash advances from $5,000 to $300,000 can usually be obtained based on a merchant’s sales volume and future credit card sales.

A business financing merchant cash advance must usually be paid back in less than 12 months. For business owners that want to renew the working capital cash advance program, it is typically possible to get more working capital after payback of the initial advance.

Limitations and Problems to Avoid with Credit Card Processing and Merchant Cash Advance Programs

As with any successful business finance strategy, there will typically be only a small number of commercial lenders who are effective at implementing this working capital management strategy properly. There are also a number of problems to be avoided with business cash advance programs, so choosing the appropriate provider of this commercial financing service is extremely important to any business owner considering a credit card financing program.

Each of us sports around our very own, unique personal brand. The many things that separate and identify us as individuals serve to become known as our personal brand. All of the principle components of our personal brand; to include first impressions, demeanor, accomplishments, and the value we place on interaction with others determine the level of success we experience in both our personal and professional lives.

As we establish our business and working relationships, we must incorporate those same principles in the strategy we use to develop our personal business brand. As an entrepreneur myself, I would like to share with you three basic steps I took to establish the foundation for personal branding in my business.

Service and Reputation – The first step toward developing a personal business brand is to determine the type of service or product you intend to provide your clients or customers. You have to decide what your mission is and always deliver the service or product as promised; in the utmost professional manner. The expectation of, or perceived service is the reason your customers will choose your services over other competitors. By visualizing the end result of your efforts, you will be able outline a plan of action in reaching your goals.

In promoting my business, I researched other service providers in my career field, and chose to provide my clients with a level of service that I found missing in a sampling of my competition. Quite simply, “One-on-One Customer Service”. The availability of this simple, consumer expectation is severely lacking in today’s market. A client can hardly expect satisfaction in seeking services when contact with a concerned service provider is practically extinct. As my business continues to grow, I note that most of the comments from satisfied customers focus on the need to express their appreciation of being able to contact an individual service provider.

Once you identify the needs of a potential client base, market your business based on the provision of those needs.

Marketing Strategy – The second step in promoting your personal business brand is obtaining visibility. With the unlimited resources and marketing avenues available today, you don’t have to spend a great deal of money (if any) to establish your foundation. You may consider my techniques “shameless self promotion”, however I consider the results monetarily rewarding. In addition to a variety of local advertising assets such as newspapers, magazines and the Chamber of Commerce; there are plenty of online resources just waiting for you to tap into the benefits they provide. One little known example: using popular free blog websites such as “Word Press” will help you to get your information out on the world-wide-web in minutes. I spent a short amount of time researching some of the opportunities available for free advertising, and you can view the results of my efforts first hand by taking time out to “Google” my business name in a variety of configurations (parker cprw, parkercprw, lisa parker cprw).

Networking – The third step in laying a successful foundation for your personal business brand is to never underestimate the power of networking. In addition to the efforts you employ through other advertising and marketing resources, remember that opportunities for networking happen on a daily basis. Aside from the many organizations that enlist members to promote networking with others in your specific career field; there are plenty of opportunities to volunteer in support of events in your local community. As a business owner you can provide free workshops, schedule product demonstrations, distribute opportunities for entry into free drawings at local businesses and a number of other activities that will support the growth of your business. The key to effective networking is to be diverse in your connections, and by this I mean that you should not limit yourself to a particular region. If your organization supports local events, wear a professional identification badge that mentions your business or service.

A large amount of my clients have sought out my services after only seeing the business name, or speaking with other satisfied customers.

Association – The ultimate goal is to have your business name associated not only with the service or product you provide, but with your own personal name as well. Most of us already have a business name before we begin to research and understand the importance of branding. That doesn’t mean that you should wait any longer to begin marketing your name side by side with that of your business. Consider “Trump Plaza”, Trump Towers”, “Trump University”, and “Trump Financial”. Do you know who I am referring to?

Personal Branding is the art of following the “Golden Rule” in the provision of service and interaction with clients and customers. By learning how to manage other people and their perceptions of you and your business, you will naturally establish the unique value that sets you apart from competitors in your career field.

Change your belief system for excellent Business relationships are hard to build when you are in a position where you don’t know anyone yet. Changing your belief system for excellent business relationships are based on a lot more than just business competence. Business relationships are crucial to business success. Business relationships are a lot like a marriage, partnership or team sport. That is why your belief system has a lot to do with whether your business relationships are going to be successful or not.

Service

The best way of changing your belief system to maximize satisfaction and perceived value is to customize service mixes based on customer value perceptions, and the length, nature and quality of the relationship. Examine service policies that require a certain number of on-site visits per year. Those customers not active in the service relationship derive less value from on-site visits, and may rely less on personal service. Don’t expect to apply the same service mix to all your customers and get the same results. Tailor your belief system for services to your customers based on the length, quality and nature of the relationship. If you want your customers from your business happy and in it for the long haul, you need to make sure they value your service and are actively engaged with your service representative. Create profiles that include current service offerings, perceptions of prior experience, whether or not these customers are receptive to visits, and how well they respond to economic incentives.

Building

Building and keeping business relationships will help you succeed but damaging relationships or leaving poor and broken business relationships can hurt your business and your reputation. Building a well-tooled network of trusted professionals takes patience, change of your belief system and persistence. Just as with a romance, building a business relationship doesn’t happen overnight and both trust and credibility need to be earned. You’ll never know about the possibilities if you don’t start changing your belief system for building relationships that are meaningful and useful to all involved. It is a great first step to building solid relationships built on trust, respect and admiration since it makes the individuals feel special and respected. In terms of leverage, partnering intelligence and the partnership continuum are major fulcrum points for building competitive advantage in business and efficacy in public organizations.

Success

Success in business is directly related to success in relationships. Success in business starts with good relationships with those around you. Success in any field is about working with the people that are there. Successful business relationships are built on trust and a sincere interest in providing financial solutions based on your unique business needs. Successful business people network for a variety of reasons. Changing your belief system about how you feel towards business relationships should always be on a positive track.

Learning

Learning how to manage through the predictable stages of business relationships is another important tool for your business toolkit. Learning, remembering and properly pronouncing other peoples names is more than just good manners, it’s good business, smart sales and service. For example, many google groups are built around helping others with technology or learning to some degree or another. We believe that people are more likely to implement what they enjoyed learning. And perhaps more importantly, why don’t small business owners spend more time learning how to communicate with the people who make up their target market. Most business relationships are covered by a body of law that basically forces us to perform and opens up options where “trust” is abused. In conclusion, changing your belief system for business relationships are an important way to expand the range of products and services that you provide…

Owning a home business offers many benefits, but it also means more responsibility. Filing your business taxes is one of the many “musts” of having your own business, and you’ll want to develop simple, consistent business habits to stay on top of matters.

Tax Records Throughout the Year

One way you can ease the pain of tax season is to keep accurate records throughout the year. You’ll need records of total sales, total deductibles or expenses, depreciation values for equipment (if applicable), local sales tax collections and total profits. Keeping records of these items is fairly easy if you develop a systematic format that’s right for you. Depending on what type of business you operate and its size, you may or may not have employees. If you do, you’ll need to keep accurate payroll records as well. Also, you’ll need to factor in 100 percent of your social security now that you’re paying your own way. At least once per month, you should assess your tax situation to find out how you’re doing in regards to paying taxes. If you earn a decent living, then you’ll probably need to save money each week or month and pay quarterly taxes. Do speak with an accountant about your business taxes. It’s too important to “guess” at what needs to be done. If your business is simple with very little expense, offers only Internet based products or services and has no employees, you can probably consult with your accountant only a few times throughout the year to find out where you stand with taxes due. For more complex business structures, a visit to the accountant will be more frequent.

Deductibles for the Home Business

You’re allowed to deduct any item or expense that assists you in business tasks or that is necessary to operate your business. For example, purchasing a computer for your business and/or any expenses incurred to keep the computer functional are considered deductibles.

Vehicle Deductible

If you drive your vehicle frequently for business purposes such as sales, delivery or business trips, your mileage can be deducted (in a converted dollar amount) from your tax bill. There are two ways to claim your vehicle on your taxes:

1. Mileage

As mentioned above, you can claim the mileage of your vehicle, but only miles you have used for business. Keep an accurate log of your mileage.

2. Vehicle Purchase and Maintenance

By calculating your vehicle maintenance, gas and oil changes, you might be able to claim more on your taxes. The only drawback is that this requires more record keeping than claiming only mileage, and you can only count a percentage for business if the vehicle is used personally at all.

Entertainment and Taxes

Did you know that you can claim 50 percent of dollars spent when entertaining a client while discussing business or forming alliances? If you want to discuss business while dining out, attending a ball game or whatever else, keep your receipt! If you have employees, you can have special events, parties, etc. for them and their families and claim 100 percent of this expense.

Other Deductible Items

*Office supplies and furniture

*Phone and Internet Connections

*Fax, Printing and Other Related Office Equipment

*Office Supplies

*Advertising Expenses

*Website Fees and Maintenance (for online business)

*Some Deductions for the Office in Your Home (utilities, insurance, remodeling expenses for the office, etc.)

*Professional fees (e.g. accountant fees and business consultant fees)

*Postage for business mailings

*Printing Expenses for envelopes, letterhead, brochures, etc.

Keep all of your receipts and organize them by week or month, depending on how many you have. The more deductibles you have, the more detailed records you should keep. Even with a very small home business, you should analyze your financial and tax situation at least once a month. This enables you to organize your records while the month’s dealings are fresh on your mind. The longer you wait, the more likely you are to forget something important that could directly affect your taxes. If you’re just starting a business, you should see an accountant to determine what types of records you need to keep and other important aspects of your taxes. Organizing now means less stress later.

A customer slips and falls in the aisle of your store. A man claims to have found a piece of glass in the jar of salsa that he bought from you. A woman tells you that your company’s face cream gave her a skin inflammation. A key employee steals from your account. Your computers get a virus and you have to suspend operations.

Any one of these occurrences could be expensive unless you have the right insurance.

How do you protect yourself? If you’re sued, you must get legal representation. You can also take steps before disaster ever happens. Here are some steps you can take to protect your business and your personal assets.

Incorporate your business. According to Bizstats.com, over three-quarters of all U.S. businesses are structured as a partnership or sole proprietorship. For these enterprises there is no legal difference between the business and the individual, and the owner is personally responsible for all liabilities. The assets of the owner are legally the same as the assets of the business.

Corporations are legal entities that are distinct from the owners and management. A corporation can own property and pay taxes. In the event of a liability, the corporation is responsible, not the owners. If your company is incorporated, then you are not personally liable for the company’s debts. (There are exceptions–if you borrow money for your small business, the bank may demand as collateral your personal assets such as your house.)

Costs for incorporation vary according to the complexity of the business and how much work you are willing to perform yourself. Attorney’s fees can be anywhere from $500 to thousands. State filing fees can total from $100 to $500. Forms of incorporation are available through your Secretary of State office or online.

Get business insurance. As a small business owner, you should protect your company’s assets the same way you protect your house or car–with insurance. There are business insurance plans for every contingency:

General liability insurance protects your business from property damage, injury claims, and advertising claims. Also known as Commercial General Liability (CGL), it’s the most basic type of insurance for small businesses.

Professional liability insurance: Providers of professional services may consider having professional liability insurance, known as errors and omissions. This coverage protects your business against claims of errors, malpractice, negligence, and omissions. For some professions it is a legal requirement to carry such a policy.

Product liability insurance: If you sell a product, you should consider product liability insurance. This provides protection in the event a customer brings a claim against your company based on a problem with your product.

Home-based business insurance: Homeowners’ insurance policies do not generally cover home-based business losses. Specialized home-based business insurance may include business property, crime and theft, loss of business data, professional liability, personal and advertising injury, and disability.

Worker’s compensation: Required in most states, worker’s compensation insurance pays for employees’ missed wages and medical expenses if injured while working.

Internet business insurance: Web-based businesses should consider specialized insurance that covers liability for damage done by hackers and viruses. In addition, e-insurance often covers specialized online activities, including lawsuits resulting from meta tag abuse, banner advertising, or electronic copyright infringement.

Criminal insurance: Employee bonds and criminal insurance provide protection against losses due to criminal misconduct.

Business interruption insurance: Losses are covered during natural disasters, fires, and other disasters that may cause the business to cease operations for a significant amount of time.

Key person insurance: The company is compensated if a key person dies, becomes ill, or leaves.

Malpractice insurance: Many licensed professionals need protection against bodily injury or property damage claims, the cost of defending lawsuits, investigations and settlements, medical expenses, and bonds or judgments required during an appeal procedure.

If you take the right steps to protect your business, you’ll be prepared when challenges arise!

For any internet marketer, there is only one important reason to advertise your internet home business and it is to build and grow your online business, make it a profitable business and finally become financially free. This is the reason why many of the business owners are promoting their businesses. Have you ever asked yourself why do you need to promote an internet home business?

When it comes to promoting your internet home business you do it for 3 reasons that have one big reason behind them. Without those 3 reasons you won’t be able to build and grow your business.

These 3 reasons are your planted seeds, and if these seed will grow, you will see you home business growing too.

The first and most important reason is to let people know about you and your online business. It is like opening a new store, which nobody knows about, if people don’t know it’s there, they will never enter, if they never enter, there will be no sales and no profit. Imagine a store in a deserted street with no sign to guide the people from the high street. This is equal with an online business; people need to know it’s there, and your job is to show them the way into your new store.

This is called traffic, you want the traffic to your website or blog to grow everyday on a regular basis. Promoting your internet home business using internet marketing methods is what you need to do.

The second reason, and as important as the first one, is to grow your list. Some of internet marketing gurus will tell you that the money is in the list. They know what they are saying, a large list means you have access to more people who might be interested in your products, or services you have to offer. To grow your list you need the traffic from the previous reason. When people visit your website or blog, some of them will sign up to your newsletter as your list, this is why offering a valuable information on you newsletter will help you grow your list.

The third and last reason and the first reason you probably started an online business is to make money online. This is the bottom line, you entered this business to make money and if you want to make money, you will have to promote your internet home business, all the actions you will make to promote your business will drive traffic to your online business and end up with you selling products and services to your online costumers and making money online.

To make money you need both traffic and a large list, one marketing method is not enough, the wider your range is the more visitors you will have, ending wither more profits.

To attain your main goal, you will have to accomplish these 3 goals first. You will have to promote your internet home business, you will have to work hard, master and implement all the internet marketing methods to the benefit of growing a strong internet home business. This is not a difficult task, it is only a matter of hard work and determination and how much you desire to achieve your goals and become financially free.

The best home businesses will fail without proper financial practices. If you do not manage your home business finances appropriately, you may find yourself sinking before you ever have a chance to fly. If you want to give your home business the best chance of success, you are going to want to follow some sound financial advice.

When your hard work starts to pay off, money is going to start rolling in. What you do with that money will play a critical part in what is going to happen to your home business. You need to put at least ten percent of the revenue generated by your home business back into the business, and many times successful home business owners put half of the home business revenue back into their home business budgets. If you do not put some of your home business revenue back into the business, your home business is not going to flourish and it will eventually fail.

While reinvesting revenue into your home business is crucial, it is not the only important matter when it comes to home business financial concerns. Practicing proper bookkeeping methods is also critical. If you do not keep the books in an organized manner, you are not going to be able to track your finances and you are definitely going to run into trouble should you ever be audited. If you do not know anything about home business bookkeeping, do yourself a favor and either take some classes or hire a bookkeeper to keep your books for you.

Speaking of bookkeeping and being audited, taxes are another thing you really need to pay attention to. Whether your home business is making ten thousand a year or ten million a year, you are going to have to pay taxes. If your home business is a sole proprietorship, doing your own taxes should not be too complicated. However, if you have incorporated your home business or turned it into an LLC, you are going to want to hire an accountant to do your taxes. Accountants do not cost nearly as much as you would pay in fines and penalties if you do not pay your taxes properly.

When your home business becomes your sole means of income, you need to plan for downtime. Experts suggest that everyone have six months of expenses put aside in case of an emergency. What if you become injured or ill and your home business can not bring in money during that time? You will need a cushion to fall back on. Put ten percent of your net profits into a savings account so you will be prepared for any unpleasant surprises.

Of all of the financial advice you will be given, this may very well be the most important. When you are operating a home business, it is essential that you manage your cash properly. By cash management I do not mean accounting or bookkeeping, I mean proper spending and proper invoice management.

You should never spend more than you have to on any of your home business expenses. While it may be convenient to run to the local office supply store for printer ink, you can get it a lot cheaper online. Anytime you buy anything for your home business, make sure you are getting the best value and your dollar will stretch a lot further.

When it comes to invoice management, you are going to have to be tough. If your home business is one where clients and customers pay you ahead of time, you will not have a problem. However, if clients pay you after you have provided a service, there are some rules you are going to want to implement into your home business practices. You will probably want to require a deposit for any services you are going to be providing and you should implement late charges on any invoices that are paid late. Your home business is what pays your bills, and if you are not getting paid like you should be you are going to run into trouble.

By following these tidbits of financial advice, you will be able to avoid a lot of home business headaches and will be able to ensure the successful growth of your home business.

Custom bobbleheads are not just ideal gifts for kids. They can also be the perfect business Christmas gifts this coming holiday season.

Bobbleheads as business Christmas gifts are unique and very novel. You will surely be remembered by those who will receive your bobbleheads business Christmas gifts.

What are Custom Bobbleheads?

You may be wondering what a bobblehead is? So, before you buy lots of them as your business Christmas gifts, here is a brief description of bobbleheads.

Originally, a bobblehead was marketed as a toy for little children. It is a small figure with the head considerably larger than the torso or body. It is usually set on a solid wood or plastic rounded base.

A typical bobblehead is about 6 to 7 inches in height. The large head is connected to the torso by a tight spring. A slight movement or tap will make the head to bobble and woggle. It is a fun and enjoyable toy but as the bobblehead business developed, customization and utility became an important feature.

That is why it is possible now to choose custom bobbleheads as business Christmas gifts. There are lots of business class custom bobbleheads that can be packaged as business Christmas gifts.

Useful Bobblehead Business Christmas Gifts

Aside from being unique, bobblehead business Christmas gifts can be very useful. There are lots of highly customized business bobbleheads suitable for employees, colleagues, and clients.

Card holders are good business Christmas gifts. You can depart from the traditional card holders and buy custom bobbleheads that function as card holders. They look like standard bobbleheads but there will be a slot attached to the body or base of the figure that can hold a business card.

These types of business Christmas gifts can be used all year long. Your business Christmas gifts therefore will not gather dust inside boxes or display cabinets.

You can simply order pre-made custom bobbleheads online. If you want to make them as business Christmas gifts, you can place a bulk order and avail of discounts or special promotions.

Other custom designs can also be found online such as table top bobbleheads that could also serve as paper weights. You can also add a pen holder at the base of the bobblehead so that your business Christmas gifts will be more useful to recipients.

Personalized Business Christmas Gifts For Special Friends

For your special friends, clients, or superior, you can personalize the bobblehead business Christmas gifts. You can specifically request the bobblehead makers to create one in the image of the recipient.

The bobblehead maker will provide the requirements needed for these types of highly personalized business Christmas gifts. Personalized bobblehead business Christmas gifts will surely be treasured by your colleagues especially if they will find the bobbleheads useful for them.

If you are thinking what business Christmas gifts you will give this holiday season, better stop your search and order custom bobbleheads. They are the perfect business Christmas gifts that can be customized and personalized. They are very useful too.

With constantly advancing technology it is no longer necessary for business to be conducted during traditional business hours or in traditional business environments. This is opening new avenues and opportunities for people to develop successful home-based businesses. The flexibility that home-based businesses provide is appealing to many individuals who are eager to break free of the traditional 9-5 business mold. One element that all successful home-based business people share is being self-motivated and organized, but even the most motivated would-be entrepreneur must carefully weigh what particular type of business they are best suited for. Evaluating one’s skill sets, interests, personality and temperament are important aspects to consider when determining if, and what type of home-based business is the right fit.

Setting firm business and personal goals will help determine what resources (effort, time, and money) must be allocated to the business in order to see the growth and returns desired. It is not uncommon to hear people state that they want significant profits in the long term with minimal time commitment. This may be possible once the business is well established in the chosen market, but may be unrealistic when first starting out.

Being honest about what you truly want out of a business will ensure that you make the right choice. For example, if substantial profits are the measuring stick for success, significant time and effort may be required in order to achieve that goal. This is especially true if, as with most home-based start-up businesses, one is working without the backing of personnel, and other resources that established businesses may have. Likewise, if pursuing an at-home business is appealing because of the flexibility of hours and freedom of lifestyle, profitability may remain relatively low.

Secondly, temperament and personality are critical traits to consider when determining not only if being an at-home entrepreneur is a sound decision, but also what type of business a person is best suited to. A person who loves to talk and forms easy friendships may have a very lucrative future in sales or service related industries. Conversely, someone who prefers to work in solitude might find great success working with data-entry or record-keeping services, or even running an online store.

Owning your own business can provide the push needed to develop or strengthen additional skill sets and branch out in a new direction. The key here is to make sure there is a solid foundation to build on. To build a strong foundation, try moving into related services first. For example, if you are running a medical billing company from home, expanding into collections for these doctors can boost business while also helping to develop additional skills.

Jumping into the role of owner in business is extremely exciting and can be a little frightening. Having a firm grasp on what type of business is best suited to one’s particular goals and skills is the cornerstone to building a solid business. This will enable the company to grow and in turn serve both the owner’s and the client’s unique needs.
