Occupation (economic), where a person performs a certain role over a long period

Job Cohen, mayor of Amsterdam

Job de Roincé (1896-1981), French journalist and writer

people with the family name Job:

The intended use is for companies and organizations to register some version of their corporate names in the .jobs domain and use it for a site specifically aimed at those seeking employment with that company, as distinguished from general corporate and marketing sites in other top level domains such as .com. For instance, asda.jobs is a site giving information about jobs available at British supermarket chain Asda. The licensed operator of the .jobs domain format is Employ Media LLC. http://jobs-website.blogspot.com

It has been suggested that subdomains of other domains, such as jobs.example.com, can be used without requiring any new registrations on the part of the companies involved. However, companies have not standardized on any such scheme for naming their job sites, so the proponents of .jobs feel it can gain a market presence by allowing recruiters to communicate a simple, direct URL destination of employment opportunities to job seekers.

The rules of registration in .jobs are designed to prevent abuses by non-qualified parties by way of its validating each request for registration. Unlike .com and most other top-level domains, .jobs does not offer real-time registrations.

Hi,I’m Boris. If you are looking for ways to make money and you want advice on the best work from home programs you have come to the right place. I was a researcher for Make Money Magazine for 11 years during that time I covered every make money program in the book. Five years ago when the “How To Make Money” market changed for the better because of the internet advances I decided to use the knowledge I gained from working for Make Money Magazine to quit this job and start up my own successful home business.I am now earning close to $90,000 every month from www.genbucks.com/?divya the home businesses I setup, so I haven’t looked back once. I have now devoted most of my life to the make money field and now I think it’s time to give something back, so I have decided to write this review site to tell people about the best home business programs around and what programs are just scams. If you are looking to purchase a proven, legitimate home business opportunity I highly recommend that you take a look at the programs I have suggested because out of the home business opportunities which I am currently using these are the ones which are making me the most money. Also my suggestions on how easy each program was to set up, their success rate and which programs are best vault for money.http://www.onlinesfortune.com

I am not a big fan of highlighting weakness in someone’s career history. Unfortunately, I have seen more resumes than I can count do exactly that. While attempting to make themselves look good, many people unknowingly end up highlighting their weaknesses or worse – they end up giving the appearance of weakness where none may exist. When someone spends much time and energy trying to polish up their resume and reads something like this article, it can be discouraging. But don’t be discouraged, I am here to help. Now, moving past the ego blow, here are some things that are guaranteed to keep you from getting an interview.

Cover letters do not belong in a resume

If you want to waste someone’s time and greatly reduce your chances of getting your resume read by a potential employer, then by all means include a lengthy summary at the beginning of you resume. This is one of the great sins of some other “professional resume writers.” Somewhere along the line someone came up with some “official” template that most of them use that always includes this summary section, whether it is a recent college graduate’s resume or the resume of partner at a major law firm. When I see this I know that whoever wrote it for them has never worked a single day as professional recruiter. Let me be clear, it is a dumb thing to do. It is amateurish and it is a distraction from your actual resume, which IS the summary of your work history. A brief summary that highlights your career accomplishments and whets a potential employer’s appetite to actually read your resume is called a cover letter, and it should always be a separate document.

Resumes are not mad libs

This one goes right back to my pet peeve about templates. Of course a resume should have some uniformity of structure – that does not mean each sentence in a job history should look like you had one of those old mad libs, fill in the blank games. It is obvious when someone has written a lazy resume with the appropriate keywords stuck into a pre-existing resume template. Don’t do it. You do not want your resume to look like 1,000 others that employer has received. The surest way to avoid that is to avoid this error.

Avoid goofy adjectives

Having spent years reading resumes as sent to me as a placement specialist, the ones that I could not get even halfway through – which means my clients could not either – are the ones that were heavy on cheesy adjectives. When I see an obscure polysyllabic adjective used over and over again in a resume, I am not seeing an impressive linguist or professional. What I am seeing, at least 98% of the time, is someone who is trying to do one of two things: distract me from a weak work history or someone who does not know how to highlight their actual accomplishments in a professional manner. No one cares if you “worked vigorously to eliminate capricious and aberrant fiduciary practices within the company,” at least not when written in such a needlessly “verbose” manner.

Personal interests are for personals in the local paper, not a professional resume

It’s great that you enjoy long walks on the beach and ultimate Frisbee, but it says nothing about your professional experience. A resume is not about what you do in your free time– it is about what you have accomplished on company time. If, in an interview, you establish a rapport with a potential employer and he asks if you enjoy synchronized swimming – feel free to answer, as that is the appropriate time to do so. Otherwise, keep such personal information off your resume, unless you are applying for a job at ESPN.

There are many other things that end up on a resume that hurt instead of help. But the above mentioned ones are a good sample of those that make a resume look particularly unprofessional. So avoid them at all costs – unless you don’t really want the job.

After running a successful telecommuting site for over 8 years and an employment agency before that, I still get that one question over and over. “Why have I not been able to land a work at home job?” My first answer is always the same. “Let’s look at your resume”.

So, inevitably, I take one look at their resume and know exactly why they have not been able to obtain the job they have been seeking. I call it the Lazy Resume Syndrome.

Case in point, one person, who will remain nameless, wanted to obtain a work at home position as a Customer Service Rep but had not pointed out any experience (although they had this) in customer service either in their objective or job experience. Another person who sent me their resume wanted a clerical position but in their objective had put that they wanted to use their management experience to obtain a job. Well, needless to say, that was not going to get them the job.

People just tend to use the same resume over and over for every position they apply to.

Being in the employment business, I have literally looked at thousands of resumes and I am still amazed at the lack of understanding of the importance of your resume matching the job you are applying for. The employer is going to reject you flat out if they do not see the skills they are looking for in the first 20 seconds.

So in this article, I hope to address how to put together a successful resume that will help you to land that coveted work at home job.

First off though, let me stress that you do need skills to obtain one of these positions. There is not a real work at home job that will say that you do not need skills. If they do they are most likely ad typing scams or other schemes that are launched by unethical individuals to lure you into ‘seeming’ employment with them when they are only out to scam you out of money.

So, with that said, let’s start with the most important part of creating your resume for telecommuting.

THE OBJECTIVE

Your objective is so very important because this will be the first thing the employer sees. Your objective should be focused on ONE job. So you may need several resumes, each with a different objective, for different jobs.

Ok, let’s say this person wants to obtain a Customer Service position that they can work from home. In this position, say they would be taking orders over the phone and inputting them at the same time into the computer.

It should be obvious to a person that their objective should now focus on this skill and reflect this in their objective but many people miss this point.

So let’s go with a few examples of objectives based on that particular job:

BAD:

Seeking to gain employment with a company using my management, administrative and clerical skills.

GOOD:

To obtain a telecommuting position using my 5 years of customer service and data entry skills.

BETTER:

To obtain a Customer Service Rep / Order Taker position that will utilize my 5 years of customer service and data entry experience.

So, now of course you can see which one the employer is going to see as the better match for their position.

The first objective has a myriad of skills that the employer isn’t necessarily interested in. The employer is not looking for a manager, administrative assistant or for clerical help for this position. Yet I see this time and time

again where people do not take the time to focus the objective on the job.

So, to sum it up, your objective should closely match the job you are applying to.

Some people like to put a summary of skills right after their objective but I think it is not necessary and somewhat distracting. I think the next thing to list is your job skills.

Now, I am going to make a very important point. Your job skills need to match your objective. So in the previous case, your job skills should immediately reflect this experience in the first few points.

Using the previous case, then their employment history should read something like this:

Job History

Customer Service Rep

The Company 2003 – 2007

* Assisted customers over the phone with problems, issues.

* Helped customers with phone orders.

* Input customer data into computer system.

Now, not everyone is going to have a perfect job title that will match the objective but there are ways around this.

You can either shorten your previous job title or change it slightly to try to ‘inch’ this into the title. For instance, say your actual job title was actually, Support Administrator, but you actually provided customer service to customers. You could change this to Support Admin / Customer Support. As long as you stay fairly close to the truth, I do not see anything wrong with this. I think what is most important is that you do have the skills to do the job.

So on the first two or so lines of the job skills, you should always list the skills that match up with your objective first.

I suggest using a bulleted format when listing your job skills. I think this is easier to read and also easier for the employer to spot the skills they are seeking.

Next, if you are looking for telecommuting work, I suggest listing your Home Office Equipment / Software. I think this is important because this will let the employer know that you are well equipped and ready to work remotely.

In the instance above, I think it would be important to list that I have high speed internet access, computer, operating system and that you have a separate land line with no call waiting. For this job you may even want to add that you have a distraction free environment as this would be important to that particular job.

As you can see it is very important to create a resume that closely reflects the job you are seeking. So, if you really want to get that elusive telecommuting job, always do the following on each of your resumes:

FOCUS your objective to the job you are applying to.

MATCH your job skills to the objective.

UTILIZE a bulleted list of job skills.

INCLUDE your Home Office Equipment / Software.

Wishing you resume success and happy telecommuting!

When you are in the market for a top-notch resume, it may behoove you to search out a resume maker. These can be found simply by doing a search on the Internet for, you guessed it, “resume maker.” These sites can provide you with everything from a template resume to build your own or a resume that you need to do very little work with other than supply your information.

An abundance of websites will pop up, many offering hundreds of resume templates that you can download for free. Resume makers really try to make it as easy for you as possible to create the perfect resume. They usually have several resume templates for all kinds of jobs and degrees. These will be tailored to your specific educational accomplishments and/or the kind of job you are searching for.

The downloadable templates are very manageable as well, as you can download them, tailor them to include the information and the visual look that you want, and then upload them wherever you choose.

This is a very intelligent option for today’s job-hunter. Create your resume using a resume maker, then save it so that it can be modified and updated as the need arises. No need to start from scratch each time, what is the point of that?

Not only that, but the competition in today’s job market is fierce, taking advantage of a resume maker can give you the edge over other applicants. Employers are looking for sharp wording, power verbs, and strong examples of what you have accomplished in the past.

Most job seekers, especially those who are not experienced in the resume-writing arena, can really use some assistance from professionals in this field; people who know how to display your achievements, skills, and most marketable traits in the best light possible. Your resume may only be glanced at for one quick second, and it is the first, and possibly only impression an employer will have of you.

That is why it is so important that your resume be formatted in the most impressive way possible, to highlight your strengths, not hide them, and to show why amid all of the other candidates, you are one who deserves an interview.

If you still need convincing, compare the same, basic resume that you have been or are thinking of using, to the professional resume created by a resume maker. The choice should be clear. It will definitely be worth going the extra mile to get the interview, and possibly land the job of your dreams, right?

Resume makes offer so many advantages. I would urge you to visit some resume maker sites on the Internet, study all that they have to offer. Certainly, some will be superior to others, isn’t it that way with most businesses?

It will be your job to decide which company is worth it’s weight in gold, and then use it to customize a resume that is bound to get you interviewed, and possibly aid in your getting the perfect job for you.

Hiring a resume writer can serve as a boost to your career search, but do you need one? If you ask a writer, the answer will no doubt be one sided. If you apply for jobs only to never hear back from the hiring manager, a writer will tell you that you need professional help. Before you hire a writer, however, you should think about the following:

Read over your resume. There could be spelling and grammatical mistakes that you’re not aware of. These are a huge turn off to potential employers. Take a moment to think about the language that you used. Can you change the wording to make it sound more professional?

Is your resume relevant? If you are in the midst of a career change, your resume may not be relevant to the position you are applying for. Trim away experience and qualifications that do not qualify you for the job you are applying for. A mixed resume is confusing to employers. Show them why you are qualified for the job by highlighting pertinent experience only.

Find ways to make your resume stand out from others. Highlighting your accomplishments is a great way to do this. Woo your future boss and show them why you are a great hire.

If you are still unhappy with your resume, you may want to consider hiring a resume writer. A professionally-polished resume may get you noticed, but it is not a guarantee of employment. Hiring a writer can be expensive as well. So, you should always weight the benefits against the drawbacks before you hire a writer.

Before you hire any writer, you should be sure of their qualifications. There are many people that say they can do the job, but can they? Always ask for writing samples and a fee structure outline ahead of time. Look for a service that has a flawless reputation. You may also want to select a professional that offers additional job seeking services as well.

If you need help finding a writer, start with the Professional Association of Resume Writers and Career Coaches (PARW/CC). This association can provide you with a list of writers and an outline of their qualifications. All of the writers listed are certified and meet industry standards. If you choose not to use this service, be sure to research any writer or company that you plan to hire. Hiring a resume writer is not a task that should be taken lightly. It’s your money and your career on the line. Make sure that you get what you pay for.

How do I apply to work for the Forest Service or other Federal Government jobs? All permanent federal jobs, including USDA Forest Service jobs, are posted in USAJOBS ( Additional information about working for the Forest Service is available from the national Forest Service website. Temporary positions on the Siuslaw NF are posted on our Employment page. Many of these are also posted on USAJOBS (There is so much information about this area that it would be better to just schedule an appointment to see a career counselor in order to pinpoint you career goals with a particular government agency. The Career Library has a Kiosk with a touch screen computer, which lists employment opportunities with the federal government. There are also websites devoted exclusively to government jobs. Most United States Federal Government agencies require you to be a U.S. citizen. Start with These positions are new jobs with the TSA, an agency of the Federal Government.http://free-online-home-job.blogspot.com

Can I apply for jobs in HireMe using my office computer? Yes. Reclamation’s policy permits employees to use their office computers and e-mail to apply for jobs. However, you are reminded that you may use government property/resources to apply for jobs only if it does not interfere with the performance of your regular duties. If you work for another Federal agency or in the private sector, contact your employer’s Human Resources Office for information on whether or not this is acceptable. We anticipate that jobs for Human Resources positions will begin to be filled from outside the government in 2006.

Are the U.S. Embassy Cairo vacancies considered U.S. Government federal jobs? No, all jobs announced for Locally Employed Staff positions at the U.S. Embassy are considered contract positions.USAJOBS is the official job site of the Federal government and the Recruitment One-Stop (ROS) resource where you can search for jobs, create resumes, and access information regarding your individual job search, e.g., the status of your applications and editing your Federal resume.

What is Federal Work-Study? Federal Work-Study is a need-based award that enables eligible students to acquire work-study jobs, the wages for which are largely funded by the federal government. The FAFSA must be filed by the March 1 priority date each year a student is interested in Federal Work-Study. Additional information regarding the eligibility requirements of this award can be found at Work-Study.The FSWEP computerized inventory is designed to search for and randomly select students who meet the job requirements determined by the hiring department. There is an average of 7,000 student jobs and over 90,000 applications in the inventory. Consequently, there is a possibility that you may not receive an interest call. Federal government student jobs are highly sought after and random selection is an equitable and fair method of searching for persons to be assessed. This is where the government has you.

Without those interviews, you will not be getting any offers. So in order to achieve this goal of getting a job offer, the compressed biography of your achievements must be stellar. Keep in mind that this is a summary of your achievements, not of your life story. Most importantly, write a well organized, concise CV. In working towards this goal, keep in mind the goal of your resume. This goal is to get you an interview. Be sure that your resume stays within those boundaries and is a neat and well organized document. In the same vein, keeping your resume neat and organized will ensure that you know the contents of your resume inside and out. Too many college grads, especially, fill their resumes to hide any experience lacking, and upon landing an interview, hesitate when being asked specific questions about information included on the resume. Avoid this situation by arriving at the interview fully prepared to elaborate on anything you have included in the resume. A resume that sticks to the aim of getting an interview will be a resume that is carefully thought through and well organized, and which is focused on things relevant to your career past and career future.

Never lose sight of the objective of the resume. The main objective is to secure an interview. An effective resume conveys that the employer needs you. If you manage to secure an interview, you have won half the battle. Approach the interview as a live transmission and expansion of what has been stated in your resume. Do not view the interview as an hour of scrutiny upon your life and experiences. Remember, your resume was good enough to be noticed, and your life achievements created the resume; thus you deserve the job. When composing your resume, review every point you have included, and check to see that it both states something positive about you and is said in an original way. Use words that indicate that because of you, things happen. Your presence was a catalyst in moving the company forward. Don’t be shy; the resume has no place for modesty, but it also has no place for bragging. In other words, your resume should turn heads, but never in doubt as to what have you said about yourself.

While achieving the goal of the resume – the interview, work to make an organized resume. Organization applies to all levels of the resume: the aesthetic format, the ordered placement of the facts, and the previous employments you choose to include. The aesthetics should be friendly to the eye, and help to draw attention to the most important points. Those that are most important should always be located nearer to the top. In other words, activities and employments that are most relevant and current should be listed first. Bullet point formats are popular for their neatness and visual aid in drawing attention where it is due. Within each bullet point, include only the most applicable and important information that your future employer will want to know about your other jobs and activities. Keeping these points concise and to the point is helpful, as not much time is spent on reading a resume, so paragraphs describing a job will be skipped over. Concise points also help achieve the end of an aesthetically organized resume.

Every company wants well-organized employees, so showing off the bat that you are organized will be a benefit for you. No matter how gifted you are, if your resume looks like a crossword puzzle in its organization and format, it will be hard for the potential employer to see your talent. When your resume is well-written, clear, and organized, you are marketing to potential employers your writing skills along with good standards of neatness and organization. Having made this impression on paper will smooth your sailing for an easy interview, as the employer’s opinion of you will already be positive.

Once the interview date has been set, this is a time to calm your nerves instead of working them into a frenzy. Don’t forget that you are going on this interview because you have already impressed the employer. Your job now is to continue the positive impression already made, and to show your character, which can’t be shown on paper. The best way of continuing a positive impression is to be prepared to talk about yourself directly and in focus, just like your resume has. When asked why you want to work in the specific career, don’t recount all the twists and turns in your life that have brought you to the conclusion; be to the point. Remember that you must be able to back up and expand on anything that you have included in your resume. Thankfully, that little piece of paper referred to as the resume has already accomplished quite a bit of work for you. It has informed the employer who you are, and what you want in a job. Now it is your turn to better acquaint yourself with who the employer is and what he wants in an employee. View the interview with such an attitude: the chance for both potential employer and employee to learn more about each other.

The resume is your formal introduction to the career world. It discloses your talents to those who are seeking just such talents. To this aim, it is important not to lose sight of the goal of the resume. The resume lets the employer know who you are, why he needs you, and where he can reach you so that he can secure an interview with you. Write your resume to reflect these goals, in a concise, organized and well-phrased document. Use this organized and well-phrased resume to your advantage at the interview, as the document is, essentially, the first impression that you have made. This is the manner in which you should view the preparation and presentation of your resume. Once at the interview, put a smile on your face and pat your resume on the back for the great job both you and it have already done – your dream career is now very near!

When you are searching for the perfect job, you will of course want to put your best foot forward with an impressive and well- formatted resume. One way of assuring that you have such a resume is to download a resume template. These templates can provide you with the exact resume you are looking for or simply use them as a guide to create your own.

A resume template can assist you with making sure that all of the information that a prospective employer expects to see will be there, and will be placed where it should be. Obviously your work history is a cornerstone of any well-written resume. Include ten to fifteen years’ worth of employment history, if you have it, and do so in reverse chronological order. Then, list your educational degrees.

However, if you are a new graduate, you will want to list your educational achievements at the top of the page, and then list your employment history and accomplishments.

You can get several different ideas and examples of how to format your resume with the help of a resume template, and if you choose to utilize this method, there are also many ways to go about doing so.

There will be many career books and guides that you can search out at the library or bookstore, which will have at least one resume template for you to study, oftentimes more.

You could also download a resume template from the Internet; there are an abundance of websites where you will be able to find a resume template, either to simply peruse or to download and use.

And for every website you come across that has a resume template, you will find that there are specialized templates for just about any type of resume you wish to create. You can find a resume template for an entry-level position, and you can find a resume template for just about any type of job or career you are looking for.

However, these are not your only options for locating a resume template. Your college or university will most assuredly have more than one resume template that you can use, and will be happy to assist you. Simply head over to their Placement Office and you will have a resume template in no time. After all, it is their job to help you find employment, and when you are successful and a satisfied and gainfully employed former student, it is also a feather in their cap.

Do you have a friend or relative who has a job you admire and a good grasp of how to format and create a resume? Why not ask them to see the resume that they used, and use that for your resume template?

There are so many options for you as you search for the perfect resume template, and with some hard work and perseverance on your part, you will find yourself with a first-class resume in no time, and hopefully, a first-class employer, as well!

Are you in need of a job? If you are, you will likely start examining all of the open jobs in your around your area, possibly even right away. When doing so, you may be surprised with what you see. Depending on where you reside, you may have hundreds or even thousands of job listings to sort through. While doing so, there are many individuals who make the decision to apply to as many jobs as they possibly can, but should you do the same?

When it comes to determining whether or not you should apply to all of the jobs that you come across, there are a number of important factors that you will want to take into consideration. One of those factors is your work related experience, training, and education. This is essentially the career field that you specialize in. For instance, if you have experience working the medical field, a job listing for an automotive technician may not be right for you, and visa versa. While you may want to apply for as many jobs as possible, you will want to try and make sure that they are ones that you are somewhat qualified for.

Another factor that you will want to take into consideration, when applying for jobs, is location. If you use your local newspaper to examine job listings, you will likely find that most job listings are for local positions only. On the other hand, if you use the internet, namely career searching or job posting websites, you may be presented with job listings from all across the country. As nice as a job may sound, you will want to refrain from applying for it if you cannot attend an interview or if you have no intention or relocating.

Another one of the many factors that you should take into consideration, when trying to determine how many jobs you should apply for, is your need for a job. If you are currently unemployed and not receiving any unemployment compensation, you may need to find a job right away. This is particularly important if you have bills piling up or if you have a family to support. If that is the case, you may want to increase your chances of finding a job by applying for as many jobs as you can. With that in mind, remember to only submit your resume or job application for job positions that you are somewhat qualified for.

The impression that you will end up creating is another factor that you will want to take into consideration, when looking to apply for as many jobs as possible. What you will want to remember is that it can reflect poorly upon you if you are regularly found to be submitting job applications or resumes to companies that you are unqualified for. It can be harmful to your good name and reputation. This is particularly important if you submit multiple job applications to the same company, but for different jobs, namely ones in which you are not qualified for.

The above mentioned points are points that you will want to take into consideration, when determining how many jobs you should apply for and which ones. In all honesty, you are advised to just use your best judgment, as it is one of the best guides to follow.
